Living the values and principles of te Tiriti o Waitangi, the Public Health and Mental Health Research Institute (PHMHRI) conducts nationally leading and globally significant research to sustainably promote equity and improve the health and wellbeing of all people of Aotearoa New Zealand.
Our aims
- Promote a world class multi-disciplinary approach to understanding and researching health issues that is grounded in community aspirations and development
- Promote the health of Māori, Pacific peoples, Asian peoples, and migrant and refugee communities
- Encourage and support researcher development by becoming a hub for new and emerging health researchers and post-graduate students
- Conduct quality research that positively informs and influences health policy and practice
- Clearly communicate research findings to diverse audiences that include communities, policymakers and practitioners, and within academic circles
- Expose students to research-informed teaching programmes that encourage their growth and development as future health researchers and leaders
- Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with a range of stakeholders including hapū, iwi, hapori, research centres, health provider organisations, non-governmental organisations, professional bodies, policy makers and other communities
- Grow the national and international reputation of the research centres and the institute
